The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
